A mi marido, Carlos.
A mis hijos.
A mis padres.
Y a mis hermanas.

The Beginning of a New Story

There are moments you imagine so many times that you begin to believe you already know exactly how they will feel.
For months, I dreamed about the end of chemotherapy. I imagined that when my final treatment arrived, I would walk out of the hospital feeling free. That I would leave behind the fear, the needles, the endless waiting, the side effects, and everything cancer had placed in my path.
And when that moment finally came… I smiled.
I smiled because I had made it to the end.
Because there were days when I truly believed I wouldn’t have the strength to keep going.
Because there were nights when fear was stronger than sleep.
Because there were moments when my own body no longer felt like mine.
Finishing chemotherapy is a victory.
And yes… it deserves to be celebrated.
But today I also want to talk about the part that almost nobody talks about.
Because the last chemotherapy session is not the end.
It is the beginning of another battle.
The battle of rebuilding yourself.
Of learning to trust a body exhausted after months of treatment.
Of accepting that the fatigue doesn’t disappear overnight.
Of learning to live with both the physical and emotional scars.
Of looking in the mirror and slowly learning to recognize yourself again.
Many people believe that once chemotherapy ends, life simply returns to normal.
I wish it were that simple.
The truth is that normality has to be rebuilt.
You have to learn to sleep again when the nights seem endless.
You have to recover an energy that feels as though it was left behind somewhere along the way.
You have to allow your mind to heal too.
And you have to learn to live with that quiet fear that appears before every follow-up appointment.
But despite everything…
Today, I choose hope.
Because a little over a year ago, I had no idea what my future would look like.
And today, I can write these words.
Not because I was stronger than anyone else.
But because I was never alone.
Today, I need to say thank you.
To my husband, Carlos.
Thank you for staying by my side when the road became steeper. Thank you for holding me together when I felt like I was falling apart. Thank you for putting up with my mood swings, my tears, my silence, my fears, and my frustration. Thank you for understanding that so often it wasn’t really me speaking, but the exhaustion, the sleepless nights, and everything this treatment had done to me. Thank you for never letting go of my hand and for reminding me, even when I couldn’t see it myself, that I was still the same woman.
To my children.
Please forgive me for the days when exhaustion and sleepless nights made me lose my patience. Forgive me if there were moments when I wasn’t the mother I wanted to be. Thank you for every hug, every kiss, every smile, and for giving me a reason to keep fighting every single day. You have been my greatest strength whenever I felt I had none left.
To my parents.
Thank you for always being there. For worrying about me before I even admitted something was wrong. For your unconditional love, your support, and the peace that only parents know how to give. Thank you for never letting me face this alone.
And to my sisters.
Thank you for listening whenever I needed to let it all out. For making me laugh when I thought I had forgotten how. For every message, every phone call, every hug, and for reminding me that a sister can also be the safest place to fall.
If I have made it this far, it is because you walked this journey with me.
My body fought this battle.
But we fought it together.
And if you are reading these words because you are facing cancer or have just begun treatment, I want to speak to you from the bottom of my heart.
I know you are afraid.
I know there will be days when you think you can’t go on.
There will be moments when it feels like the end will never come.
But it will.
And when that final chemotherapy session arrives, you will realize that you haven’t just finished a treatment.
You have discovered a woman who has learned to get back up, again and again.
Don’t rush to become the person you were before.
You may never be exactly the same.
Because this journey changes us.
It breaks us.
It teaches us.
And little by little, it rebuilds us.
Don’t let anyone tell you when you should feel «better.»
Give yourself permission to rest.
To cry.
To celebrate every small step forward.
And never lose hope.
Because even if recovery is slow, the day will come when you will make plans again, laugh without guilt, and look toward the future with excitement.
Today I close a chapter I never chose to live.
But I also open another one that I intend to live with all the passion that cancer could never take away from me.
Because chemotherapy is over.
Recovery begins now.
And even though I still have a long road ahead…
Today, I am aiming my life forward again.
With fear.
With scars.
With a body that is still healing.
But also with a strength I never knew I had.
Because this is not the end.
It is the beginning of a new story.🌞🌈
